SIC to host “The Music of Christmas” December 15
Southeastern Illinois College’s Community Chorus will extend its tradition of great holiday-themed performances with The Music of Christmas, held Sunday, Dec.15 at 2 p.m. in the college’s George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center.
The annual concert is in its 37th year, and continues under the direction of Tim Green, who also serves as the pastor of the Gospel Mission Tabernacle in Golconda. The concert has become the signature event for the chorus, which is made up of volunteer singers, high school age and up, from throughout southern Illinois. The holiday performances began in 1977 under the direction of former music teacher James Kinchen, with SIC music instructor Bruce Boone later continuing the holiday tradition until his retirement in 2005.
This year’s program will feature over an hour of music, including arrangements of several Christmas favorites. The choir will also debut two original Christmas pieces composed by Green. Once again, the Community Chorus will be accompanied by Madeline Rogers of Eldorado on piano.
Tickets for the performance can be purchased for $5 per person. Contact the box office at boxoffice@sic.edu or 618-252-5400, ext. 2486 or 2487. Those wanting to know more about the performance may call SIC’s Kellye Whitler at 618-841-4649.
