Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum Main Gallery

The Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art is open to the public when SIC is in session Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and closed on Fridays mid-May through July, and during holidays or when the college is closed. Additionally, the Museum is open the first Sunday of each month, 1 - 4 p.m., except during holiday weekends, as well as during special events and by appointment. With three galleries, there is so much to see!

The original SIC Art Gallery, located in the upper lobby of the George T. Dennis Visual & Performing Arts Center also features rotating exhibitions. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and closed on Fridays mid-May through July, and during holidays or when the college is closed.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the museum is limiting capacity to no more than 10 visitors in the museum at one time. Due to the possibility of abrupt closures due to the virus, appointments are encouraged. Masks are required in the museum as well as on SIC’s campus and no food or drinks are allowed in the museum.

Art of Our Region 

Local Photography Exhibit
February 2 - May 14, 2021
Location: Museum Main and West Galleries

This exhibit celebrates local photographers in our 40 county region. 60 pieces are on display. Subject matter includes portraits, wildlife and nature, among many others.

Vision Quests - The Donated Works of Charles Hammond
June 1 - September 19, 2021

Hammond taught photography at SIC for many years and has had many shows in the tristate area. He has also restored and reprinted photographs of historical importance to the area and has been published in various books about the southern Illinois area. 

Marion & Christy Poggas Exhibits
Main Gallery: An Intimate Portrait of Southern Illinois
West Gallery: Freedom to Travel

Marion is known for photography while his wife Christy uses an array of media including graphite, ink, watercolor, colored pencils, markers and oil paint. Christy has also expanded her artistic interests to include basketry, jewelry and Oriental Sumi e painting. The Poggas’ works blend together beautifully to showcase both their views of southern Illinois and their travels. Their exhibits will run concurrently with An Intimate Portrait of Southern Illinois being shown in the main gallery, while Freedom to Travel is being displayed in the museum’s west gallery. 

3D Art Exhibit

This multi-artist exhibit will showcase a variety of 3-Dimensional works of all subject matters from metal works, to sculptures, to 3D paintings and more. 

Coal Country Exhibit

So many towns in our region were built on the back of coal. Generation after generation of coal miners have lived and tunneled their way through this area. This multi-artist, multi-media exhibit in the museum’s west gallery will examine the rich culture of coal in our region, and the people who call this way of life “home”.

This region is known for its natural beauty, and this exhibit will showcase just that, the beauty of nature. This multi-artist, multi-media show held in the museum’s main gallery will host works that are made of, made for, and visually represent nature.
