Week of the Young Child Proclaimed at SIC

April 13, 2016

Southeastern Illinois College president Dr. Jonah Rice joined some of the children and teachers in SIC’s Mary Jo Oldham Center for Child Study (MJOCCS) this week to sign a proclamation declaring the official “Week of the Young Child™” April 10-16.

The Week of the Young Child ™ is an annual national celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  The special week recognizes the importance of quality child care, children and their families, and the programs that serve them.  The MJOCCS is NAEYC certified.

Special activities planned throughout the week, include a special week-long art display in the SIC Art Gallery with art from each child on display, a picture and proclamation with Harrisburg Mayor Dale Fowler and mini-parade to help raise awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month, and a week of dress-up days with special themes: spirit day, rock star day, western day, superhero day and pajama day.
