SIC’s Annual Cosmetology Showcase Coming July 11
Friday, July 11 marks the fourth year Southeastern Illinois College will put on display its various programs in Cosmetology, Esthetics and Nail Technology. The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center on the college’s main campus located east of Harrisburg.
Activities this year will include total look creations in hair, make-up, nail, and wardrobe design, all done by students in a competitive setting. There will also be nail art displays for viewing. SIC’s nail program took first in the Illinois state competition for nail art this past November in Chicago.
“The theme this year is Cultural Styles. The students selected a country that they could research and pull design inspirations,” said Wendy Harris, SIC cosmetology instructor. “The students will be designing two models, one being in traditional culture and the other being a current look cohesive to the traditional style. The creation is total look including hair, make-up, nails, and wardrobe,” she explained.
The showcase is free and open to the public and is an excellent opportunity for the community to observe the artistic skills of students enrolled in the programs. To conclude the evening, students and staff will host a reception for those attending.
Southeastern’s Cosmetology program now includes a two-semester Esthetics program (the study of skin and spa services) and a popular single-semester nail technology program. Cosmetology programs fill quickly, so interested students should inquire early. For more information or for Falcon Salon & Day Spa hours, visit www.sic.edu/cosmetology or call 252-5400 ext. 2213.
