Family Nurse Practitioner and Staff Nurse at HMC, Herrin Hospital, IYC-Harrisburg, and Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.
What does SIC mean to you?
I have many great memories as a student in the 70s and now have the opportunity to give back to our community and that brings much joy to my career. SIC provides great opportunities for students to explore possibilities towards success and obtain quality education from dedicated instructors. I am very proud to say that I am part of the SIC family.
What is your favorite memory at SIC?
I had many great experiences during my academic years with participation on the SIC Forensics team, cheerleading, and developing lifelong friendships. I am very excited when I see former nursing graduates practicing in their professional role and sharing what they are doing in their careers and family life. I am so pleased to hear from our graduates who are continuing to pursue their education towards their BSN and MSN. I also have enjoyed helping in many children’s activities sponsored by SIC and in the community where our students have assisted in their events.
What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with my six year old son, Chance, my two older sons, Damon and Doug, five grandchildren (Darren, Brandon, Natalie, Sydney, and Gretchen), and my husband. Chance is involved in many activities so this Mom has to be his personal cheerleader! I also enjoy gardening, shopping, and spending time with my friends.
Where’s your favorite vacation spot?
I enjoy the ocean beaches and fishing at Scarlett Lake Subdivision. In the future, we have plans to build a home there to vacation with family and friends.
In the movie based on your life, who plays you?
Robin Williams in “Patch Adams.” I like to stir things up in a gentle humorous manner when I work with students and patients. It has been some of the best medicine for me through the years.
If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
I would love to have dinner with my parents (Carl and Imogene), sister (Carla), and brother (David) again as well as former colleagues and friends, Marita Pavelonis and Carla Burns, who have all gone to be with God. I miss them very much. Also, I would like to watch the Chicago Cubs games with my father from the 2016 World Series. He always said that they would make a comeback. Go CUBS! Enjoy Dad!!!
What is the best piece of advice you've ever heard?
I was told many years ago that “people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” I know now that this was a quote written by Maya Angelou.
