Phi Theta Kappa, founded in 1918 as the national honorary scholastic fraternity for community colleges, is the community college equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa. Mu Psi, the Southeastern Chapter, came into being in 1962. Academic excellence is the primary hallmark of PTK and membership is extended by invitation only based on factors including academic standing, moral character, and qualities of citizenship. The team competes, at a national level, in service-oriented projects at a national convention. The team has been awarded a 5-Star Chapter Award, the highest awarded, on several occasions. Coach: Kellye Whitler |
Students in Free Enterprise competes at a regional, national, and international level. SIFE requires students to develop and implement educational projects that focus on free enterprise, with the assistance of businesses and educators. The team won the Regional Championships 10 straight years (1996 - 2006). In 2002, the team won 2nd place in the nation. This was actually an international placement since non-US schools are allowed to compete. Coach: Dan Holt |
