Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum Main Gallery

The Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art is now open to the public Tuesday-Friday (when the college is open) and the first Sunday of each month, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., as well as during special events and by appointment. With three galleries, there is always something new and exciting to see!

The original SIC Art Gallery, located in the upper lobby of the George T. Dennis Visual & Performing Arts Center also features rotating exhibitions year-round. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. when classes are in session, during special events, and by appointment.

Art of Our Region 

Art of Our Region: 1930s-2019
August 23 - December 4
Location: Museum Main, West & Permanent Galleries
"Talks with Ella" and Meet the Artists: Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.


This exhibit showcases a collection of work from past and present artists working in our 40-county region. It includes pieces that will become part of the permanent collection from artists such as Aaron Bohrod, Penny Cent, Jean Skiver-Levy, George Carr and many more wonderful artists.

Insect Introspection
November 12-  January 10

This exhibit of artwork by Galatia 5th and 6th graders, under the direction of Ms. Kristen Jones, creatively explores the grasshopper and the praying mantis. 

Jesse Rouse Exhibit
January 21 - March 8
Location: Museum Main Gallery
Reception:  February 23, 2-3 p.m.


 This is a solo show by Jesse Rouse of Harrisburg. Jesse is known for his detailed works depicting well-know attractions in Saline County and the surrounding areas.

This exhibit is a comprehensive look at the work completed by the SIC Senior Adult Art Class under the direction of instructor Mrs. Libby Morecraft.

Inspired by Art: Wall Art Quilts by Marie Samuel
Jan. 21-March 27
Location: SIC Art Gallery
Reception: Feb. 23 at 2-3 p.m.


Using memorable works by artists Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, among others; Marie Samuel creates the wall art quilts as a personal expression of art appreciation. The quilts are hand appliquéd and hand quilted.

Creative Endeavors: Regional High School Art Show
February 28 - March 8
Location: Museum West Gallery
Reception:  March 1 at 2-3 p.m.


District High School art teachers submit student work in the following categories: drawing, color drawing, painting, sculpture and ceramics, photography and graphic design, and mixed media. Ribbons are awarded in each category for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mention, along with one Best of Show. 

Fiber Arts Exhibit
March 23 - May 3
Location: Museum Main Gallery
Reception: May 3 2-3


 This exhibit will showcase all things Fiber Arts. Anything from quilts, to textiles and other uses of natural and/or synthetic fibers will be on display. 

Southern Illinois Intercollegiate Art Show
March 23-29
Location: Museum West Gallery
Reception: March 29 at 2-3 p.m.


Southern Illinois Community Colleges submit their best work in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, graphic design, and mixed media.  Ribbons are awarded in each category for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mention, along with one Best of Show.

Finished: SIC Student Portfolio Show
April 13 - May 9
Location: Museum West Gallery
Reception:  May 3 at 2-3 p.m.


This show is an accumulation of work by SIC Art students from the past academic year. Their best work is showcased in individual sections for each student.

Week of the Young Child
April 6 - 30
Location: SIC Art Gallery


Each child from the Mary Jo Oldham Center for Child Study will have a piece of artwork on display that is inspired by a famous artist.

Local Photography Exhibit
May 18 - July 12
Location: Museum Main and West Galleries
Reception: July 12, 2-3 p.m.


 This exhibit will celebrate local photographers in our 40 county region. No subject matter is off limits!
