FAQ

Q. When will my scholarship be applied to my account?

A. Fall scholarships are applied in September and Spring scholarships are applied in February.

Q. Can I use my scholarship for books?

A. Most scholarships can be used for books, but it is dependent upon donor and your specific scholarship award letter. The Foundation applies scholarships to tuition and fees first and then books.

Q. How do I get a book voucher?

A. You need to schedule a time with Sky Fowler to pick up your book voucher. You can call her at
(618) 252.5400 ext. 2482 or email her at
sky.fowler@sic.edu. If Sky is away from her desk or with a student when you call please leave her a voice mail so that she can call you back.

Q. Is my Pell Grant voucher the same as my Foundation book voucher?

A. No it is not the same.  Your Pell voucher comes from the Financial Aid Office and it is deducted from your Pell Grant. The SIC Foundation does not have any records for your Pell Grant. You need a separate voucher from the Foundation for your Foundation scholarships.

Q. If I use my Pell book voucher instead of my Foundation book voucher, will it affect my scholarships?

A. In most cases it doesn’t affect you. If you have an SIC full academic scholarship that pays for all of your tuition and fees, then it is important that you use your Foundation book voucher so that you can use your scholarship.

Q. Can the Foundation write me a check for my scholarship?

A. Most scholarships are applied to your account. However, there are some donors that do allow scholarships to be used for educational expenses outside of tuition and fees. This would usually be specified in your award letter from the donor. This does not mean that you will receive a check for the award amount, you might get a book or meal voucher.

Q. How can I get a meal card?

A. If your scholarship can be used for a meal card, then you need to schedule a time with Sky Fowler to pick up your meal card voucher. You can call her at (618) 252.5400 ext. 2482 or email her at sky.fowler@sic.edu. If Sky is away from her desk or with a student when you call please leave her a voice mail so that she can call you back.

Q. Do I need my scholarship award letter?

A. Yes and/or a copy of the certificate, if a letter was not provided.

Q. What are other educational expenses referred to in my award letter?

A. Other educational expenses are dependent upon the donor and each scholarship award is different.  This information should be included in your award letter. It may include books, meal card, transportation, housing, etc.

Q. Do I need to provide donor or Foundation Office a copy of my transcript?

A. Some scholarships do require a copy of your transcript.  It should be stated in your award letter as to who should receive a copy of your transcript.
