Jim Wahlig
At SIC, Jim Wahlig was a member of the 1977 Conference Championship Team and earned All-Region and All-American honors. The New Athens, IL, native spent a year (1977-78) on the Southeastern baseball squad before transferring to Iowa State. At Iowa, Wahlig was named Rookie of the Year and earned All Big 8 Honorable Mention. He spent two years with the Toronto Blue Jays organization. For the past 25 years, Wahlig has been a part of the MonClair Baseball Association’s Waterloo Buds, where he is a six-time batting champion, All-Star MVP, and career leader in hits, home runs, and doubles.
Wahlig is the father of Katie, 22, and Sam, 13, whom he enjoyed coaching in little league. Married to Lisa, Jim and his family reside in New Athens, where he continues his 21-year career with Rubber Rolling Manufacturing. “I enjoyed my year at Southeastern meeting great people, making friendships that have lasted 25 years. I will never forget my Harrisburg experience, including playing for Rich Hacker and dealing with the Blizzard of ’77,” Wahlig said. |
