Bruce Bard
After graduating from Shawneetown High School, All Conference and All State basketball player Bruce Bard led SIC in an 18-game winning streak in the 1975-76. Bard’s post-SIC playing career took him to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on a basketball scholarship from 1976-78. Later, Bruce was a grad-assistant coach at SIU-Carbondale and has taught and coached at many schools since 1982, including: Marion Junior High; Pope County Junior High Basketball State Champions in 1985; Harrisburg High School (assistant coach); SIC (assistant coach 1990-93); Malan Junior High in Harrisburg; and most recently, as a junior high coach in Kinder, Louisiana (where he also won Teacher of the Year) and high school coach in Hathaway, Louisiana. Mac and Michael McLachlan make their home in Louisiana, where Mac plays on the National Championship LSU football team that won the Sugar Bowl on January 4. Bruce’s SIC ties include sister Karen Keasler, Instructor in the Business Division.
