Recommended Browsers and Apps for Canvas
Computers, browsers, and software
To be successful in an online class, both you and your students need either a laptop or a desktop computer with the latest web browser versions and reliable internet access.
Canvas runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, or any other device with a modern web browser. Although Canvas runs on a variety of devices, some courses may require software and or a specific operating system.
Canvas supports the last two versions of every browser release. We highly recommend updating to the newest version of whatever browser you are using (Best Browsers for Canvas).
Although a number of browsers are listed on the above site, we recommend Google Chrome
Canvas on mobile browsers
Canvas does not officially support mobile browsers (e.g., iOS Safari, Chrome App, Firefox App). However, in some cases, using the mobile browser may provide a better experience than the official app. It is suggested that you try both methods to find which works best for your device and situation.
Canvas iOS and Android apps
Canvas recommends using the Canvas by Instructure app. The app is compatible with the following mobile operating systems, on both tablets and mobile phones:
- iOS 8.0+
- Android 4.0+
The app can be downloaded from the Play Store on Android or the App Store on iOS devices. Search for "Canvas by Instructure" and install. The school name, if not using the QR code method for logging in is siconline.
Clicking on the Help icon at the bottom of the left side toolbar in Canvas is also a great way to find information about Canvas through the Canvas Guides.
