     Thank you for your interest about nursing at Southeastern Illinois College.  Nursing is a diverse, rapidly growing profession, and Southeastern Illinois College provides nursing students with a strong foundation in the basic concepts of nursing.  The nursing profession is the number one occupation for employment growth projections for 2006-2016.  Nurses are employed everywhere in our society:  hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, hospices, home care, outpatient surgical centers, schools, industry, correctional institutions, private practices, judicial systems, and churches.  If you are interested in a profession that provides you numerous opportunities to care for people in many different settings, as well as personal and professional growth, we urge you to consider a career in nursing.

     The Division of Nursing provides instruction in Nursing Assistant, Practical Nursing (Traditional)*, Practical Nursing Hybrid*, Associate Degree Nursing (Traditional)*, Health Occupations, Massage Therapy, Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Rescue Training, Medical Office Assistant, Medical Transcription, Medical Coding and Billing, Pharmacy Technician, and other health related programs.  The division's programs are approved by various appropriate agencies including the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Department of Financial Professional Regulation.  The Occupational Therapy Assistant*, Surgical Technology*, Medical Laboratory Technology*, and Veterinarian Technology* programs are part of the Southern Illinois Collegiate Common Market Consortium.  Modern laboratory facilities are provided, along with clinical assignments at local health care facilities. (*NOTE: These programs require a specific admission and application process.  Students should apply in the fall semester for acceptance into the following fall semester.)

     At Southeastern, the nursing faculty is readily available to assist students and is committed to nursing education.  Southeastern Illinois College offers many support services to assist students in the nursing program.

Personal Information:  My name is Amy Murphy, and I have been teaching at Southeastern Illinois College since January, 2000.  In 1978, I entered the SIC PN program and graduated from the ADN program in 1981.  I completed my Bachelor’s Degree with McKendree University in 1998.  In 2011, I obtained a Master’s Degree in Nursing with emphasis on Nursing Education from University of Southern Indiana.  My work history includes acute care, emergency room, and home health care. My teaching areas include pharmacology, medical calculations and care planning.  I have been married since 1983 and have two grown children of whom I am very proud.  SIC welcomes you to our nursing and allied health department.  Good luck on all of your educational endeavors.

Personal Information:  My name is Gina Sirach.  I have taught for Southeastern Illinois College since 1984.  I graduated from Southeastern Illinois College with an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1981.  I graduated from University of Evansville in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  I completed my MSN with an emphasis in Nursing Education in 2005 from the University of Southern Indiana.  My past work experience includes Medical-Surgical Nursing, Patient Education, Home Health and Long-Term Care.  I am married to Mike Sirach.  We have two children, Blake and Kellyn, and we reside in Harrisburg.  Thank you for visiting our nursing web page.  I look forward to assisting you in achieving your nursing career objectives.

Personal Information:  Hi, my name is Karen McConnell and I have been a Practical Nursing Instructor at Southeastern Illinois College since the fall of 1990.  I graduated from Murray State University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  My past work experience includes Acute Care Nursing in the Emergency Room, Special Care and the Medical-Surgical floor.

My husband, Blake, and I have three children, Allie, Braden and Paige.  My interests beyond helping students achieve their goals in nursing include church activities, decorating my home, cooking and baking, gardening, painting and sewing.

It has been a joy and a privilege to watch our past students excel in the nursing profession.  We look forward to helping you reach your career goals.

Personal Information:  Hi, my name is Sylvia Moore.  I began working here at Southeastern Illinois College in 2008.  I graduated from Murray State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  I am currently pursuing my MSN in the Nurse Educator tract from University of Southern Indiana.  My past work experience includes:  Neuro, CCU, Medical-Surgical floor, and Home Health.

My husband, Mike, and I have been married for 18 years and we have 2 daughters-Raya and Lily.  We reside in Pope County.  My interests are cooking, gardening, and being with my family as much as possible.
