Math and Science Memorial Awards

June Rice Malan was a member of the mathematics faculty at Southeastern from 1961 to 1963.  The June Rice Malan Memorial Math Scholarship has been awarded since 1964.  It is awarded to the student who has the highest academic record in mathematics, possesses the attributes of a responsible citizen, gives evidence of leadership, and expresses an intent to do further work in mathematics or a related subject.
Eva O. Gersbacher was a member of the biology faculty at Southeastern from 1964 to 1973.  The Eva O. Gersbacher Memorial Biology Scholarship has been awarded since 1973.  It is awarded to the student who has the highest academic record in biology, possesses the attributes of a responsible citizen, gives evidence of leadership, and expresses an intent to do further work in biology or a related subject.
Sam Porter was a member of the chemistry faculty at Southeastern from 1965 to 1990.  He was also the Chair of the Math and Science Division from 1971 to 1990.  The Sam Porter Chemistry Scholarships have been awarded since 1990.  They are awarded to the Freshman and Sophomore students who have achieved outstanding scholarship in their respective chemistry sequences and who express an interest in doing further work in chemistry or the other sciences.
